PETOSKEY – The chances of enjoying warm nights by the waterfront in Petoskey should really be enjoyed during the summer months.
Come fall and the seasons to follow, they are rare.
Monday at Ed White Field on the waterfront in Petoskey, the women’s fastpitch teams of the Petoskey Parks and Rec. the league took its time wrapping up the action on the night, with both games heading for extra innings.
Neither, however, turned out in such a way that the Bomb Squad beat the Sun Dogs in a 9-8 game over nine innings in Game 1, followed by an 8- win. 7 Blaze v ALS in eight innings.
For the Blaze, Jen Foley led in the eventual winning run in the eighth inning on a double, which marked Kenzie Bromley.
Katie Hansen also scored a two-RBI triple for the Blaze in the sixth inning to help the Blaze take the lead late in the game, while Brooke Bixby scored twice and scored three runs.
Meghan Friske also passed Annie Timmer on a hard blow to the left field fence, Hannah Sanderson twice singles and had a run batted in, Timmer singles and Gillian Howard doubled up.
Timmer took the win by pitching the Blaze, racking up 10 strikeouts, including six between the last three frames.
For SLA Brooke Carlson did a single twice and had three RBIs, Casie Parker had a RBI in Singles, Jessica Beaubien doubled, singles and got an RBI and Brooke DeMeuse trebled, singles and doubled , while driving in a sleeve.
Beaubien suffered loss in the circle for ALS, but knocked out 17 batters in the process.
Bomb Squad 9, Sun Dogs 8
In the opening game of the night, the leadership changes came late, until the Bomb Squad placed a pair in ninth and forced the Sun Dogs to a single run for the 9-8 victory.
Lara Novenske and Vanessa Wandrie each had RBIs in the ninth for the Bomb Squad, with Wandrie coming in on a triple.
Grace Henckel singles, trebles and got a run batted in, Miya White made a two-time single and led in a run, Avery Nowosad singles and doubled, Avery Zipp doubled in a run and Aubrey Williams singles and a got two RBIs.
Bomb Squad had both Henckel and Nowosad pitch, with Henckel starting and ending the match in the circle. She finished her eight innings with 15 strikeouts, while Nowosad had a one-inning punch of work.
For the Sun Dogs, Jade Barnes went 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Heidi Burkhart treble, Haley Johnson had a single RBI and Stacy McGeorge and Courtney Rhoads each had an RBI.
Stacey Barber-Walker and Sierra Sleight each pitched, with Barber Walker suffering the loss early in six innings and seven strikeouts.
